The first Map of History adventure, in El Escorial
Two centuries of El Escorial, unlocked on foot.
The first Map of History adventure: a historical treasure hunt through El Escorial for the bicentenary of its title of Leal Villa, themed on Assassin's Creed and sponsored by Ubisoft. Players follow a trail from Felipe II to the start of the Civil War with a free Android app whose clues unlock by geolocation at each place.
The app, built in LibGDX, needs no registration: an Animus-style interface, a minimap of where you stand and a database that fills with the clues, texts and images you collect, with a nod to the Apple of Eden. It was made with El Gremio de las Sombras, the Assassin's Creed fan community; El Escorial historian Gregorio Sánchez Meco checked every historical claim, and the hunt ran from 20 to 30 July 2015, with prizes for the fastest finishers and the best costumes.
